A belt tensioner pulley is usually installed in cars to provide tension and keep the timing belt, or the serpentine belt, running smoothly. This pulley facilitates the movement of the belt and allows the engine to power multiple components inside such as the alternator, the air conditioner, and the water pump. However, because the pulley is based on an intricate mechanism, regular wear, and tear which is likely to cause it to sustain damage over time. Eventually, you will have to think about replacing it.

Take it to a Workshop

If you want to get the belt tensioner pulley replaced, the first thing you need to do is take it to a local workshop. You can search online for different automotive garages and find one that is located close to your place. Just call them to let them know about the problem before you bring your car there. In case the pulley is strained, you will still be able to drive the car to the workshop. However, if the pulley breaks, then you will have to tow the car to their workshop.

Replacing the Pulley

After they have identified the extent of the problem, they are going to replace the tensioner pulley altogether. A suitable replacement from a similar model will be used to ensure that the pulley fits in properly. Once it’s fitted, they will place the belt on it before checking that the entire system works properly. Then, you can take your car back!
